RAISING THE AWARENESS OF FARMERS ON ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ISSUES RELATED TO THE REUSE OF WASTEWATER IN AGRICULTURE

A SWIM-SM regional campaign to promote awareness raising of farmers in the SWIM Partner Countries on environmental health issues related to the reuse of raw or treated wastewater in agriculture is currently under preparation.

Consultation meetings are presently carried out with officials responsible for extension services and/or administrations and cooperatives related to farmer’s activities in Lebanon, Jordan and Tunisia to identify the type of messages, materials and activities that could shape the awareness raising and communication campaign addressing this target group and to establish synergies with other existing relevant on-going activities.

The regional awareness raising campaign also complements additional efforts planned by the SWIM-Support Mechanism in relation to wastewater treatment and reuse and water governance and mainstreaming at the local level.

Consultation activities will be extended to all Partner Countries during the next months.
